Virtual Hogwarts > Ravenclaw Tower > Ravenclaw Seeker Challenge |
Posted by: Caitlyn Wagers Jan 29 2004, 09:25 AM |
Ravie Seeker Challenge: Cait enters the common room, and her eyes are immediately drawn to the large notice board with the list of students signing up to tryout for the team. Smiling, Cait waited for those she ‘owled’ to meet her to discuss the next phase of tryouts. ~~ SEEKERS: One of the most influential positions on the Quidditch team is playing as one of our trustful Seekers. I know quite a few of you have watched Rohtia Stewart, Occidit Norton, Feuris Dragonbone pull off many attempts at catching the elusive snitches that are released during our matches. However, I wonder, how many budding Seekers are out there hiding… The position can be very stressful, and sometimes even dangerous if you are unable to pull out of a flat spin. So, only those of you, who are brave at heart, should step forward, because I have a task for you. Cait smiled broadly at those that stepped forward. “Wonderful! Now, let me introduce myself and explain the rules. My name is Caitlyn Wagers, and I've been a captain of the Quidditch team for the past two terms.” Caitlyn stops as she hears the faintest echo of 'Wagers, she is our Queen!' Cait shook her head slightly to rid herself of such embarrassing and egotistical thoughts. With a faint smile and a rush of heat to her cheeks at her thoughts, Cait realized she was receiving quite a few weird stares because she has just stopped in the middle of her speech. Gathering her composure, Cait cleared her throat and began once again, “Hem,…now, for those of you who remain, the rules are simple. I will let loose a series of snitches, and you will have to give me the answer and a link to that answer for each one of them to advance to the next round. There will be a series of 3 rounds which will progress in more difficult questions as you near the end of the challenge.” Taking a breath, Cait looked around, and noticed that most of them seemed to be following her so far. “Now, to explain each round. The first round of the Seeker Challenge will be a five question test. You will PM when you are ready to take the test, and I’ll send you the test via PM. You will then PM the answers and the test questions back to me. Any questions you have should be sent to me via PM. I will log in when you read the test (via PM tracking) and the time it takes you to answer the six questions. Each participant’s test will be the same, and the four fastest at answering the questions will proceed to the next round. If there is a tie, then those individuals will also enter the next round. You will have half a week to ask for the test, and send in your reply. Round 1 will start today, January 29 and will end February 3rd. Round 2 will be to judge how the fastest 8 (without a tie) compete against each other. This ‘round’ will be conducted in this thread, and I and maybe 2 more individuals will send out snitches, and you will compete against each other to see who really has the skills to be a Seeker on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. (Though you can try out just for the heck of it.) There will be some accounting for time zones, to help even everything out. The fastest correct answer of a question will award that player the catch of one snitch. Once two individuals catch 2 snitches, those two individuals will precede to the next round. The final round will be more similar to what you’ll face in an actual game. There will be no accounting for time zones, and the questions will be more difficult than before. There will be a total of 3 questions. Based on how you do in each round will contribute considerably in choosing this terms’ Ravenclaw starting and reserve Seeker.” Realizing that she was throwing a lot at them at once, Cait smiled and leaned on one of the couches in the common room. “Now, I realize there are quite a lot more to be answered, but for now, I would like to hold off questions until we get under way. I will be in my room waiting to receive an ‘owl’ from you,” Cait said as she quietly left the room of ‘hopefuls’ discussing the upcoming challenge. ---------------------- Okay. So, I copied it from last term, but the jist is this is open for the entire house. Even if you have no interest in playing for the team, you can still compete. And for those of you who want to be on the team, it gives you a way to show off your capablities. If you're already tuning this out, I hope you notice the word prizes before you hit the "back" button. I've contacted a few of the shopkeepers in Hogsmede, and they've very graciously donated some wonderful PRIZES for me to hand out to the winner (and depending on how many I get...to the runner-up too). NOTE: There will be no arguing with the officials (*cough* the captains of the team) over a snitch. And some of the prizes (ex. joke item, pet, wizardwear, etc) are such that you have to have all of your school supplies before I can hand them out to you. Therefore, you'll have "won" the prizes, but until you get all of your school supply items, I'll not be sending the prize to you. And, the rules for the second and third round are subject to change at my discretion depending on the popularity of the challenge and in the best interest to the team. |

Feuris kicked the ground and soared through the sky. Alex had shown him he couldn’t slack, he was sure he had made some progress and, modesty apart, he thought he was good. Not as good as Occidit, that was clear but sadly he would not be playing this season. That didn’t mean others as good as him would come. Alex was one of them. But no way he would not fight to play this year. He loved the game with passion, a passion taught to him by Ro and Cait. With fierce determination he looked fot the evasive snitch. He felt it rather than see it though. He pushed his broom to the limit not caring it was vibrating dangerously, his broom clearly was telling he couldn’t tolerate this kind of velocity any longer. “Just a little… a little… gotcha!” In his hand a gold glint could be seen. But this time they were competing against clock so if anyone who entered the contest could outmatch him. |

Ginny stummbled off the ground hovering a little while above the damp grass that covered the Quidditch field. She was still nervous just about trying out, she looked back down at her fellow house members as she flew a few more feet causing her to wiggle a little. She took a few deep breaths before seeing the golden speck in the sky across the field. "Oh great...and I got the worst broom in the shed..." She mummbled as she flew forward immitaiting a dart. She giggled as she felt the wind pick-up around her long cloak wrapping itself around her arms and face. She out streched her arm and tried grabbing the snitch for her first time. She missed it pulling hard on her broom stick. She flipped around upside down and tummbled backwards putting a few more feet in front of her. She sighed and flew towards the snitch again. This time she felt the cold metal wiggle in her palm and laughed as she realized what she had done. Ginny blushed deeply when she saw her time several long minutes far from Feuris's time previous to her own. She knew it was worth the excitment just to be competing in the races against the more advanced flyers and felt lucky in the end. She hit the ground once again and felt the butterflies in her stomach disappear, realived all eyes had left her figure. ((At least I tried ![]() EDIT: Didn't want my siggy! |

Piccolo had always enjoyed watching the Quidditch matches, but she'd never actually thought about playing in a game herself, until now. Perhaps it was Caitlyn's use of the word, "challenge." That was one thing that Piccolo could never resist. She mounted her broom, took a few practice flights around the yard, and announced that she was ready to try out! |

Alex smiled as she walked into the Ravie seeker challenge with 'George' leaned against her shoulder. She was so glad that she had the broom Professor Wood had allowed her borrow since she was his TA. She had a feeling with how many people may be needing the school brooms today that she would have had a hard time getting her favorite school broom out of the shed. Mounting the broom, she gave it a small pat like so many times before. 'C'mon George... don't fail me now...' She thought with a grin. This broom had got her through a year of flying and two lessons as the TA, including the lesson on falling. That had to be the one that she dreaded the most, but at the same time looked forward to the most, since she was now confident she could pull out of a fall. Alex kicked off the ground and soared into the air along with the other seeker challenge hopefuls. She noticed that there were some here that were not trying out for seeker, but were instead interested in the contest potentials, but she also recognised many from the first part of the tryouts. That had to have been one of the best times she had had this year, so far. It was her first time in a quidditch game. She had completely shocked herself by snatching up two snitches. She hadn't even expected to get one. To be honest, she expected Feuris to spot all the snitches. He was the expirienced one out of all of them. Alex had watched him play too before. The only thing she could think of was that he was having an off day during the tryout. That was the only explanation she could think of. Flying around a bit, she watched as a blur caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. Following the blur, she grinned when she saw it slow up and then come to a stop, revealing Feuris with a glint of gold in his hand. Leaning forward on her broom, Alex zoomed down to where Feuris was floating on his own broom. "Wow... that was really awesome, Feuris!" She said grinning and indicating the struggling gold ball in his hand. EDIT: *kicks her siggy away* |

Well, we had quite a few Ravies try their hand at the challenge, and I'd like to thank you all for your efforts. There were a few ties so 10 students will be going on to the next round. The ones chosen to compete in the next round were selected because of their skill at finding the correct answer quickly, and providing me links to the information. *waves Ravie banner* Good luck everyone in the next round(s)! The individuals competing in Round 2 are (in no particular order): Feuris Kernan Alex Davis Monica Ginny Piccolo Dana Taylor Krystela Ainnle |

I'm sorry, Dana, but when I woke up this morning only you were on...it wouldn't be much of a challenge that way. And how about yet another pretty golden snitch flying your way:

"Yay!" Piccolo zips around the Quidditch court in a victory lap, then goes to sit quietly in the bleachers to watch her as her classmates compete over the remaining snitches. |

Ginny awaits nervously looking around. "Just two more..........Good job everyone! I know I won't make it!" Ginny sighs and flips around oddly on her broom. |

Piccolo bonks Ginny (gently) with the end of her broom. "Not with that attitude, you won't!" "Keep trying, I know you can do it!" |

He was done. A shame it was he had lost. His pride was hurt and bitterness surrounded his heart but the knowledge the best seekers would compete to make into Ravenclaw team secured this year’s cup. “Good job Taylor and Piccolo!” Not having anything to say or do Feuris landed and make his way. A time alone would make him good. |

On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on her maiden voyage to New York. At that time, she was the largest and most luxurious ship ever built. At 11:40 PM on April 14, 1912, she struck an iceberg. More than 1500 people died that night. Please find me the name of a lawyer, a justice of the peace, and a personal maid who survived the sinking of the Titanic. (ie. you'll be listing three names for me). Please provide me with a link as to how you that was their occupation (could be one or several depending on what site you stumble upon. |
