Duel 1 02/09/06
Kia smiled happily as she closed her book. Finished! She stuffed her Astronomy book away, in which she had completed reading the first chapter of, and leaned back in her chair with a heavy sigh. What to do oh what to do. Kia thought of going down to the Quidditch Pitch to practice a little before the Flying Lesson but she didn't think that she was able to access a broom without someone unlocked the broom closet. Feeling a little let down in her thoughts, Kia frowned, unsure of what to do. She hadn't known where her roomies had run off to and hadn't really made that many close friends to meet up with, though she thought of catching up with them somewhere.
"I know!" Kia cried excitedly. Dueling Chamber but of course! She flung her things to the side and looked around for her robe. Seeing it flung across one of the Common Room chairs, she felt its pockets for her wand. Uh oh. Where was it? Kia panicked and rushed around frantically, searching through her things for her wand. How could she possible lose her wand? She began crossing her arms when her right hand grazed her side pocket where it bulged a little in a curious shape. "Oh!" Kia laughed at herself, pulling her wand out of her pocket. Rolling her eyes, Kia made her out of the Gryffindor Common Room (finally) and down those many flights of moving staircases to the Dungeons.
Oh how gloomy and damp it felt, though Kia sort of enjoyed the mysteriousness of it. She peeked into the chamber, unsure of what she was getting herself into. She hadn't had an official duel yet and no, she wasn't afraid or anything, she was curious really as to what might happen. Hopefully someone in her year would duel her, then they would be (hopefully) sharing the same type of experience. After all, it was only the first week of Hogwarts, how much dueling could you cram in that time?
She glanced around at the platforms where the duels took place. Was she supposed to wait for them to finish and then claim their platform or what? Kia noticed a student hopping up to an empty platform and crying something across the chamber. Shrugging, Kia mimcked the older student by stepping up on an empty platform nearby. Skipping the crying out part, she waited impatiently for someone to come and duel her. Her first duel at Hogwarts. How exciting!
((I would highly appreciate it if Kia could duel first- or second-year))

QUOTE | What is with you youngin's not wanting to be placed in Hufflepuff? Well, anyways, I don't think that house would quite suit your needs. Your willingness to stand up for your friends is admirable, and there's one place where that sort of a trait is cherished. I think you know which house, because you mind is seeing red! Skipping happily down a few cooridors and around some corners, Hekate was struck with how convenient it was to be so close to the dueling chamber. Somebody must have known she would have fun with this and that was why she was a Slytherin. Nevermind that both her brother and sister were *and* that she had the mannerisms to go there according to the hat. But then... it had said she'd make a good Ravenclaw as well. So, it must have known she'd like being close to the chamber. Yep. That was it.
Spotting a girl by herself on a platform, Hekate dashed over to it. It was only her third duel ever, but hopefully she'd catch on sooner or later. Sooner rather than later if she had anything to do with it. She would succeed! Anything other than that would not be acceptable. Not one bit.
"My name is Hekate Cronus." Hekate said with a smile to the girl who looked about her age. "I'd like to duel you if you don't have a partner already..."

Kia smiled as a girl came up to her and asked for a duel. "Sure!" Kia smiled, taking note of the girl's unique name. "I'm Shykia," she said quickly. Not really sure what to do, Kia tried to remember from mentoring what was next. Do they start? Wait no... dueling officiator. Right, to make the duel official. Made sense.
Before Kia could call a dueling officiator around to start their duel, someone already popped up out of nowhere behind them. He lookd like an officiator, even if he was in a.. wheelchair? Okay, sure. So, he said begin. That meant, they could begin? Trying not to miss a single step of her first duel ever (not counting the mentor duel), Kia took a deep breath. She tilted her head down in a short little bow, first to Leon and then to Hekate.
"Okay, so let's get this party started then," Kia said, pulling out her wand and taking a few steps back so she was the correct-ish distance away from Hekate. Hekate. Such an interesting name. Kia was always meeting students with the most fascinating names.
"Pyeretz!" A jolt insied of Kia sprang to life as a powerful, in her case, spell came shooting from her wand. "Whoa," Kia whispered, fascinated with her own doing. Dueling was so cool!!

"Pleased to meet you, Shykia," Hekate said with a smile and then looked around to see if there was an oficiator nearby. Luck seemed to be on her side since there was one. One she had just met earlier that day.
At his greeting, Hekate gave him another smal curtsy in greeting. "Fate is being nice today then, Mr. Leon," she said in response to him. He may have introduced himself to her as 'Leon' earlier, but he was an adult and so deserved to have the 'mister' attached to it. It was a little odd he had introduced himself so informally. At least in her mind since she had never called an adult by an informal name other than her brother, of course.
'Meep!' Hekate thought with a shock as she realised she was dwelling too much on their officiator. Enough so there was a spell heading her way. Not only heading her way but, way too close for comfort!
"Obsidi... ack!" she started, with an attempt to block the spell. No such luck. "Ahhh! Hot! Hot! Water!" Hekate said bouncing and waving her hand in front of her mouth since it felt as if she had just ate some of the hottest peppers in the gardens back home. One might find her quite amusing... or unbecoming. At that point, she didn't care! She just wanted to get the hotness out of her mouth!
Dashing off the platform to the table that was nearby, she grabbed one of the pitchers of water and poured it into a cup. Drinking it down as fast as she could, she wasn't even struck by the coldness of the water until she felt her tongue numb a bit and the headache that comes from eating something cold way too fast.
"Owww...." she whimpered a bit as she climbed back on the platform and set her cup down. Now, not only was her tongue all weird feeling, but head head hurt to boot. Raising her wand, she mouthed a quick sorry to the officiator for rushing off. "Flipendo!"
50 - 0 (hit) - 9 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 41
0 hits 1 hit
edit: *coughs* 0 + 1 = 1, Hekate... I can add... really...
note to self : Don't duel at 4 AM...

((Psst. You forgot your 1 hit in your tally))
Kia's eyes widened as Hekate was too distracted it seemed to block her casted spell. She winced a little then couldn't help an evil little giggle as Hekate got hit and started yelling for water. Did Kia feel powerful or what? Then again, she was only an ickle Gryffindor so she wasn't all that powerful considering... Kia glanced at the more advanced duelers, shooting huge, unknown spells to their opponents.
Snapping back to her own duel, her first one ever, Kia was determined not to be distracted like Hekate. Then she might lost the duel! Ah! Not good! Kia laughed a little quietly as Hekate ran to get some water. Good for her that there was a pitcher of cold water nearby. Shame that Kia hadn't choosen a platform farther away from the water. "You okay?" Kia asked, honestly not really caring but pretending that she did. Then again, it was good to know that she never wanted to be hit with that spell, seemed a bit too much for her taste (pun not intended).
"Happy to be in Slytherin?" Kia asked, curious to know if Hekate wanted to be in Slytherin or was just choosen there. Knowing she was Slytherin let Kia know that she was not a muggleborn, which made Kia feel a bit relieved, but it wasn't like there was much to feel relieved about. Losing a duel to a muggleborn, that was something to definitely panick about. Kia ducked with a squeal of alarm to Hekate's powerful jinx. Had she not heard that because she was talking or something? Wow, and she was just promising herself neer to get distracted in a duel. But conversation seemed necessary when trying to meet people during duels, correct?
"I suppose... that I should be paying more attention then..." Kia mumbled to herself, not really sure if she would have been able to be quick enough to block that powerful jinx anyway with all of its energy. "Flipendo!" she cried quickly. At least she didn't get hit. Even if she did, it was only a knockback. So you only got.. knocked.. back? Hence its name presumably.
42 - 0 (dodge) - 7 (Lvl 1 Knockback Jinx) = 35 1 hits/dodges
EDIT:: tally miscalculations
