((-ooc only people that ask and are invited))

He takes a deep breath as he steps into the lawn. a light rain falls to the ground. It falls to the ground so slow you could almost see every drop. He really didn't mind the rain but he pulled his cloak around him. He didn't want to be noticed just yet. He sat there listening to the rain as it hit the stone steps. hit the trees, hit the grass. HE had a sense of serenity. It was good to be back..to where it felt safe.

Alex strolled out onto the lawn intent on going out to the lake. Muttering under her breath as she felt the rain drops hit her, she pulled her robes around herself tighter. She had plans to make it to her tree by the lake, even if she was rather wet when she got there.

Stopping in her tracks, she frowned slightly when she saw the very familiar figure sitting on the lawn a little bits away. She felt her heart make a jump to her throat just like it did the first time she saw him in the Great Hall. Why was it still doing that? It shouldn't be doing that anymore. They broke up. Her heart should not give that lurch any longer. They were friends, plain and simple. That's how it was meant to be.

Thinking about the way he had looked the first time she saw him when she returned, she bit her lip. She hadn't seen him since then much and she hoped he was all right. Taking a few tentative steps forward, closer to him, Alex wondered if he would notice she was there or if she should say something first.

He saw her. He just wanted to run away not to see those eyes but how could he do that. He stood his ground. "Hi....Ale.." He couldn't even bring himself to say her full name. He looked down at the ground. He continue to fidget and move from one foot to the next. WHy was fate so cruel.

"Hey Keth..." Alex trailed off, not in the same way Keth did, but quite similar. Wrapping her robes tighter around her as the rain trickled down, she thought longingly about her tree by the lake in the silence that had sprung between them, trying to think of something to say. She utterly hated them having this silence, but a lot can happen in a year.

"I.. uh... Are you all right?" Alex asked softly after a moment, glancing him up and down to be sure that her eyes told her the same answer that he would.

He tried to pull the cloak tighter around his face. He didn't want to look in those eyes. His eyes were pulled towards hers. He wanted to pull away but he could not. His eyes filled with sorrow. Why did he become so distant. Why did he have to leave. His stomach twisted, and his heart pounded threating to explode.

Alex met his eyes as her own traveled back to his face after surveying him to make sure he looked all right. Scrunching her eyebrow, she bit her lip when she saw the sorrow in them. She hated this silence and awkwardness that was between them, but she didn't know what to do about it.

Sighing softly, she questioned him once more. "All right, Keth?" That in itself sounded weird coming from her mouth as she normally called him Kethie, but it didn't seem like something she had much of a right to do anymore; not after breaking up with him. She kept wondering if anything might go back to normal. Between them being seperated for so long and not talking, then Alex ending it for that reason, it didn't seem like they would break through the silence this time, but she was hopeful.

He looked down at his feet and clenched his teeth. Then as quickly as he looked down he looked back up with a big smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. It seem the sadness had vanished from his exterior but it was still their. He stepped up gave her a quick hug then stepped back. " How are you?" He then noticed he had to look down at her. He blinked and wondered how long he been gone. He then gave her a smile that showed he still cared.

Alex smiled when she saw the smile on his face as he looked back up. It seemed like the one she remembered, but at the same time, she knew it wasn't totally geniune. Though, she wasn't going to let on that she knew. Not yet, anyways. She may not have seen him in over a year, but there are some instincts with people that never let go.

Returning the hug with a soft sigh, she smiled again. Perhaps it wasn't too late for them to grasp onto their friendship. She wasn't sure about much of anything right now, but she knew that was one thing for sure she wanted. She had felt lost this past year without him and had only just begun to feel some semblance of what she knew of as herself recently. Though, who knew who that really was anymore.

Glancing up at him, when she heard him speak finally, she bit her lower lip in thought. "Hmm... confused and surprised seem to come to mind..." she answered truthfully.

"Other than that... I'm all right, I guess. How about you? You're taller.... Amazing what a year can do..." she said with a somewhat playful grin. Her and Keth had been about the same height last time they saw each other. Alex hadn't really grown much taller, but being on a broom so much with Quidditch and being the Flying TA had caused her to at least become a bit more muscular and the year also caused her hair to now be to the bottom of her waist instead of her mid-back.

He conitinued his half truthful happiness." I am good and thats as true as toasted toads." he said as he continued to smile. He couldn't bear to bring forth how he really felt. He been gone for a year and didn't want to make things worse then they were. He had been gone all this time and not a letter. His face became white with guilt. He was suchs a horrid person. His face twisted with self loathing.

He shook his head. He must look stupid standing there saying nothing in the rain. He look up trying to think somthing to say. He would hate himself if he caused her pain. He opened his mouth then closed it. He finally gave up and cupped his hands and started to catch rain drops.

"Toasted... toads?" Alex said scrunching her nose. "Ewwwness. Although... hmmm... that gives me an ide- er nevermind." Alex added coughing slightly and then watching him silently as he lost colof in his face.

"Keth?" she questioned, stepping forward and putting a hand on his upper arm. "What's wrong..." she said dropping her hand as she realised what she had instictively done and stepped back a bit again observing him as he opened and shut his mouth a couple times. Then, she raised an eyebrow and a small mischevious smile showed as he watched him cup his hands to catch the rain drops.

"You know Keth.... it would be so easy to do... this!" Alex said and when she said 'this', she bopped the bottom of his hands up a bit after she noticed the water catching a bit in them.

He looks out of the corner of his eye as she lifts her hand the water goes into his face. Same ole Alex. Then he gives her a sly grin and he reaches into his robe. Out he pulls a water balloon. ALex had told him always to be prepared. With one great toss and taking aim he throws it at Alex.

Posted by: Alexandria Davis Jun 4 2004, 10:23 PM
"Gah!" Alex exclaimed as the water balloon hit her hard in the chest. She wasn't very far away, only a few steps, so there was not enough time for her to react and stop the balloon before it hit.

"Keth!" she said laughing. "You do realise... this means war! Now.... what should it be... I have found several interesting and quite entertaining charms. They've been quite useful." Alex added, grinning as she thought of the lovely things PAMM had found in their best tool ever, Livy's uncle's journal.

"Don't worry. Not using them. I'll be good." Alex said smiling, knowing full well he had to have known what kind of charms she had implied using. Stepping closer to the tree trunk to try to get out of the rain a bit more, she leaned against it. She briefly glanced up at the castle wall cause there seemed to be a covered area there, but then shrugged her shoulders. It wasn't raining all that hard and the tree gave pretty good cover.

"So... what have you been up to this past year?" Alex asked casually, but keeping an eye out for another water balloon or something else to head her way.

'Fool me once... shame on you... fool me twice... shame on me...' she thought with a grin as she would be ready if he had something else up his sleeve. Of course, that phrase would be useful for Keth as well as Alex was the one who started the water 'fight.'

HE wanted to tell him what it was really like thier..well for him atleast but he couldn't bear the way they treated him there. "It was good" He hid a frown. He couldn't believe he was lieing to her. All he ever did was hurt her it seemed.
He then bent down and hugged his knees and began to play with a piece of grass. He soon got bored with that and sat down next to her.

He rummaged through his robes and pulled a crude looking flute. He began playing an errie music. Then it soon became cheerful like birds singing the days of winter away. He seemed to be entranced by his own music and continued to play nothing outside disturbing him from playing.

'Good? Yeah right... and I've never broken a rule before...' Alex thought to herself as she settled herself on the ground and sat Indian styles, suddenly grateful she decided to wear jeans and not her uniform under her normal school robes. 'I know you better than that, Kethie... or I did at least...' she added once more in her thoughts, not realising she had already fallen to calling him 'Kethie' in her mind.

Listening to him play silently, her thoughts were drawn back to the last time she had heard him play. They had stayed up all night, unintentionally. Keth had pointed out several constelations to her. It had been a miracle they hadn't been caught out of bounds.

He finished his favorite tune and with that he slowly brought his fluet down. He took it between his two fingers and twirled it around. He needed to say somthing but he couldn't get himself to. HE saw alex in thought and grinned wildyly to himself. He threw his flute into the air and snapped his fingers. In one fluid motion the flute was airborne. With a mighty pop the flute disappeared and rose petals fell everywhere."Even though we are not where we use to be... Can we still be friends and see where it goes from there" He became a deathly white. He just didn't want them to become stranger and still had feelings for her.He would just have to hide those feelings not wanting to lose the best thing that happen to him.

Alex smiled slightly and picked up one of the rose petals, rubbing it with her fingers. Looking up as he spoke, she frowned slightly. He wanted to be just friends? Yeah, that was what she wanted as well, she hadn't expected him to agree with her. It seemed to make it more... final. Make the letter she had sent him more real instead of the surreal it had felt these past few months.

"Yeah... Keth... I want us to be friends. I want us to be what we were before... I want my best friend back. I've needed him this last year... more times than I can count. And yet... he wasn't here. I know that's not your fault... but... even us owling each other would have helped. I know I'm part to blame for that... I could have picked up a quill just as easily." Alex said sighing and looking back down at the petal she had been nervously playing with. "I just... I don't know... didn't think you wanted to hear from me after you weren't there like your letter had said for Christmas... the one letters we sent."

"It's been rough here. You've missed quite a bit, Kethie. You have no idea how much. Did you know the castle was invaded?" Alex said biting her lip and trying to ask questions she had wanted to ask for quite some time. The invasion had been one of those times when she desperatley needed, not Keth, her boyfriend, but Keth, her best friend. The one who was always there when she needed him. "For that matter... did you know there were student's kidnapped by deatheaters just this year?"

He looks indifferent at all her comments on last year. He looked at her. " I hope you were not hurt." He wasn't very sincere. He folded his arms into the opposite sleeve of his robes. Why didn't he finish what he started. This would be so much easier. Somthing in the back of his head but he shut it out. He couldn't believe he was being so nice to her.

He looked over an saw a worried look in her eye. He unlocked the voice in the back of his mind free but kept it on a tight leash. "Alex I am so sorry I couldn't be here to protect you. " He gave a smile he could only give to alex. Even though in his eyes their was a sense of torture and pain going in them. "Alex I have to go. Its best that we." He stumbled with the next few words. "don't hang around much" His vision started to blur and he rushed up and headed off towards the castle.

Alex scrunched her eyebrow when Keth said he hoped she wasn't hurt. Unless he had majorly changed, she knew that was not a toe of concern from him. In fact, she didn't like the tone he used at all.

Watching his actions as he folded his arms inside his sleeve, Alex kept trying to figuire out in her mind what had caused this change in him. She knew it would be weird, but she didn't expect him to become indifferent towards what had been happening at the school with the deatheaters. Wrapping her arms around her knees, she pulled them close to her chest, protectively. She just didn't understand it, but then, given certain things in their past, you would think she would.

She raised her eyebrows high as he continued. Now he was smiling? She knew that smile well as well. It was the one she knew was always reserved solely for her. Opening her mouth to retort and tell him there was no need for them to stay away as they had been seperated for some time and it shouldn't be a problem, she sat there for a moment with her jaw hangin as he ran off towards the castle. He thought he would just leave again like that and her not get to say a thing about it? Well, he had another thing coming if that was the case. She hadn't ever ran from problems before and she wasn't about to start now. Well, that wasn't quite true either considering she avoided her friends at the beginning of the year. Though, it would be very simple to just let him walk away. It would make so many things easier, especially the feelings she had begun to feel about someone else that she hadn't yet admitted to herself about. That wasn't who she was though, and she wouldn't allow him to be that person either.

Standing up, she took off at a jog, easily catching up with him now that she had been playing quidditch for a year. It always amazed her at how much fitter she felt now from all the practices. "Okay, Kethro Garrison Magus. Stop." Alex said putting her hand on his upper arm to stop him, purposely using both of his last names. She hoped that would be a reminder of all they had been through together and that she wasn't going to let him walk away.

"You may be willing to throw away what shred of a freindship we have left after this last year, but I'm not. I don't know what's going on with you... because you aren't telling me. You've missed a lot in the last year. A lot you need to know about if you are staying here. We were once best friends. Did that change just because you were at Durmstrang? Because I faced facts that you weren't coming back and decided to move on with my life? Oh wait... did it change because you came back and things aren't the same? A lot can happen in a year, Keth. A lot." Alex said letting out her frustration of the ping pong match that the past half hour had felt out here with him. There had been a multitude of emotions in that short amount of time and they weren't helping her confusion, only deepening it. One thing was for sure, it seemed the year had also made Alex not afraid to speak her mind where before she may have just let him go and deal on his own had he needed it.

"You can come to me when you are ready to talk." Alex said much softer, the irritation floating from her voice as she pointed her wand over at the rose petals they had left behind, enchanting them to come to her. Holding her hand out as they reached her a bit faster and more forceful than she had intended from her irritation that was still under the surface, she took half of them and put them in Keth's hand.

"Send me one of those if you decide to come to your senses and I'll meet ya under that same tree. Kallisto and Isis are always around. Same with the school owls... I'm not throwing away our friendship and I hope you won't either." Alex said finally and turned towards the pitch, putting the petals she had kept in her inner pocket.

His hand wrapped around the rose petals. It was bliss to see her this way. The fire in her eyes. To bad it wasn't hate but soon enough he told himself. As He saw her walk away the nagging in the back of his head was screaming with all its might to get out to not let it end like this. His eyes were blurred and a tear strode down his cheek. Weakness that he would not have. The screaming was soon locked away in the back of his mind.

He looked at the rose petal a stupid sign of friendship. What did she see in him. Rage stormed threw him. He crunched the flowers up and threw them in the wind. This year it would be over. This year he will be in control. It would end with her. A sinister grin came and gone quickly. He stood there almost with no emotion. He felt empty but soon that will be fixed soon.

He looked down and saw a rose petal still upon the ground. He went over and picked it up. He held it to his chest and hugged and then kissed it and finally put it into his pocket. How could he hate somthing so beautiful and he was not talking about the petal. He turned to rush after Alex but his legs refused to move and he turned to head into the castle.
